Abstracta Akunok Acoustic Seating
A secluded nook for peace, reflection, and rest.
Design by: Maja Ganszyniec
The new acoustic furniture concept by Abstracta and designer Maja Ganszyniec ambitiously tackles two of the biggest challenges facing many of today’s workplaces.
The first is to create better soundscapes that promote well-being and job satisfaction. The second is to offer employees secluded, quiet smaller areas where they can focus on their work in comfort, either alone or in small groups.
A play on the words acoustic and nook, Akunok is about carefully created seclusion — rather than establishing enclosed rooms.
Akunok is designed for dynamic environments characterised by noise and movement, such as open-plan offices and co-working spaces. It is also ideal for furnishing lobbies, libraries and reading rooms. Or for improving the soundscape and creating spatial variety in large, open environments, such as malls, train stations, and airports.
The generously deep, highback acoustic seat is a secluded space unto itself in dynamic environments.
Both high and low frequencies can be effectively addressed thanks to the deep seat and well-balanced side and back panels. The excellent sound-absorbing properties of Akunoks are established in Acoustic facts' independent quality tests.
“Akunok is a composition of flat surfaces. Nothing is completely closed. Its intriguing design language stems from an ambitious objective to radically enhance soundscapes.”

A furniture concept for hybrid meetings, informal conversations, and focused work.
The concept consists of generously deep and comfortable acoustic seats in one-seater and two-seater versions; an innovative floor screen; and two neat tables, one round and the other oval.
The highback Akunok acoustic seat features pocket springs for maximum comfort. By incorporating pocket springs for seating support, Akunok not only achieves superior comfort compared to the use of large volumes of polyurethane foam but also ensures long-lasting comfort while significantly minimizing material usage.
The Akunok series includes two handy and versatile tables, one round and one oval, suitable for a laptop. Both table tops are made of oak. A clever base with two tubular steel legs lets users pull the table forward so the table top slightly overlaps the seat cushion. Its base is available in several colours.
The space created between the two screens acts as a sound trap. The self-supporting floor screen lacks any protruding legs that impede furniture arrangement.
With only three well-optimized variants – a high back one-seater, high back two-seater, and an efficient large floor screen – you can create most configurations required for today’s modern workspaces.
