Ultra Short Throw
There are now several short throw projectors designed for use with interactive whiteboards in education. Short throw projectors reduce shadowing on the board and the risk of the projectors light.

They are quick and easier to install as they can be mounted on the wall above the board. This usually places them closer to a power supply and onto a surface that is already know to be robust enough to take a whiteboard.

Whilst they may appear easier to install, it still requires experience and know-how to produce the right sized image to fill the board and one that is focused entirely around the surface of the board.

There are several manufacturers on offer from, Hitachi, Toshiba, Sanyo, NEC, 3M, BenQ, Epson and Sahara with many more brands predicting new models this year.

Some models are loosely referred to as "short throw" however, there are some brands that are closer to the board than others, namely "ultra short throw". As you will see from the picture, at the recent BETT Show, this picture was taken curtesy of AV News where it clearly demonstrates that some "short throw" projectors are not as close as others.

Although there is still no conclusive research, safety fears are growing around the impact of projector glare in students and teachers eyes when using interactive whiteboards. Extreme short throw technology is designed to be sited very close to the whiteboard and angled, dramatically reducing both glare and shadow effects.

Additionally, there is no colour degradation - when a lamp is replaced, you can be assured that the colour quality and brightness will remain as good as ever, delivering a longer projector life and an attractive return on investment.
